Hairy seaweed mystery at Orewa Beach
A strange hair-like seaweed has arrived in vast quantities on Orewa Beach. One beach-goer said she had never seen anything like it in 40 years of walking on the beach. The seaweed is slippery, smells salty and resembles clumps of ginger hair. One of New Zealand's top marine biologists was unable to identify the species from a photo, so the seaweed remains nameless - for now. What do you think it is? Let us know in the comments.
