30-40% missing at schools

Sorry but I see the usual high expectation has been set once again. Does Taranaki need a motor racing facility?

I agree their activities are undesirable but boys will be boys as the saying goes. You will never get them all to comply but would a Taranaki racing circuit help. Many other areas have them. Taranaki has always had a strong motor racing heritage in terms of facilities but mainly revolved around speedway. The main exception is the North Taranaki Kart Club and its adjoining jet sprint circuit. Lake Rotomanu is also great for limited water activities as is the Tasman Sea. I believe Taranaki has lots of Fat Cats so come on guys and girls. What about a facility like Hampton Downs with a lake in the middle. This would provide for the boy and girl racers plus a water sports facility which has always been lacking. I could see many activities being incorporated in addition to pure motor racing such as a skid pad, rowing, canoe racing, water skiing, swimming to help keep are people active and healthy. What about one of our rich but public spirited farmers giving the community one of their farms - what a great start that would be. Also likely to encourage outside interest/finance. With say 100 acres we would have enough to provide a whole multi-sports facility. The racecourse is always going to be a compromise. We need to start afresh. An added bonus is another potential supply of water. Come on Taranaki - you can do it.

My contribution to climate change and the promotion of electric cars - race slot cars.

I am now into my 7th decade since I starting to race these little projectiles but It is as much fun today as it was when I first experienced the sport back about 1960. As a non-contact sport it is very ACC friendly.

They use no petrol except to get to events, provide endless hours of fun whether you are retired or not, encourage innovation and construction skills and get people off those dreaded video things.

Recently one grandfather brought his grandson along to try racing for that very reason.

As a retirement activity, while not as energy intensive as table tennis for example; they keep you occupied, intouch with a great group of like-minded people as well as keeping your body and mind in good condition.

They also promote the electric car revolution although that may be stretching things a bit. You only need to look at the media however to see that electric powered racing is taking off across the world.

Hope this at least gives you a laugh. I attach a photo of my just completed project prepared for a proxy event in Australia. Also one of the full sized but far less environment friendly vehicle.

Dear Madam/Sir

As an animal owner and client of Paws & Claws Kennels and Cattery in Egmont Village, I was concerned to hear some Vet Clinics in Taranaki are considering outsourcing their animal cremation needs to a company in the Hawkes Bay.

Paws & Claws have been serving animal owners here for the past seven years with boarding, daycare and funeral services. Bill and Tracey are valued members of the Egmont Village community, they are genuine animal lovers and have made a substantial investment into their family business over this time. They have remodelled and improved their facility, employing local tradespeople extensively, and are currently in the process of installing a state of the art furnace to service the needs of their local community.

In this Covid environment when we are all trying to do our bit to support each other, shop local, use local services, appreciate our local people, it seems irrational to even consider such an environmentally irresponsible option. We are living in the middle of a declared climate emergency. Freight costs, fuel costs, refrigeration costs, will only increase, we can see this happening already. Why would I choose to send my beloved dog in a freezer truck 400ks across the country to be cremated when I have a perfectly good, personal service, right here in Taranaki?

Paws and Claws’ pet cremation services will be put into jeopardy if our local vets choose to ignore their local service and outsource their needs to a company in the Hawkes Bay. I don’t want to lose my local service, and as an animal owner and an environmentally concerned person I want to know my vet is onside with best practice procedures. As I support my local vet, I would urge other animal owners to ask their vet what cremation services they use and to choose our local cremation service, Paws & Claws in Egmont Village.

According to studies, taking a warm shower every night will help you fall asleep faster.
Showering often re-regulates our bodies' flowing motion and aids in the stabilization of our body temperature. It allows us to cool down and relax after a long and exhausting day. Showering or bathing before bedtime has several important sleep-promoting benefits:

Showers help you relax both physically and emotionally. A warm bath or shower always makes you feel better. It's easier to sleep when you're less anxious.

Showers are cleansing. When you go into bed clean, you will not only feel less stressed, but you will also avoid carrying any dirt, oils, or allergies into the bed with you. This is beneficial to both your skin and your mattress.

Showers require you to unplug. You can't watch TV or check Facebook on your phone while showering (unless you want to harm your technology). Even if just for a few minutes, your mind needs to disconnect. Including a shower in your evening regimen helps you move from your active daytime mode to relaxation and sleep mode.

Inflation and what we can do about it.

Charles from Lynmouth - Moturoa

I appreciate some of it is imported or caused by covid but a good proportion is the result of direct or indirect Govt. policy or increases like the massive electricity escalation that has just been applied . Local authorities do not escape either so come neighbours give us your ideas.
