The weather gods looked favorably on everyone (sometimes we are due a "lucky break"). It is great to bring on the season of goodwill after a couple of difficult years!
A special mention to the prizewinners; Marfell School, Santas Trees, Outrigger Canoe Club and Sentinel Homes, their entries were outstanding. There was a great variety of floats entering into the Christmas spirit, with marching teams, cheerleaders, dancers and skaters. The presence of our emergency services and helicopter trust is especially recognised. Our "Superheros" of real estate joined the NZ Army and some of our special charities in showing off New Plymouth's community spirit. the Taranaki Childrens Choir escorted a very happy Sant and Mrs Claus.
The Parade is a cornerstone project for our New Plymouth Central Lions Club, and we are pleased to do this with the support of NPDC, TMS, The NZ Army Cadets and the MoreFM radio team!
We wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas!

The current age of voting is 18 in New Zealand and lobby group Make It 16 have been running a youth-led campaign advocating for the vote to be extended to our 16 and 17-year-olds.
“This is history,” said Make It 16 co-director Caeden Tipler. “Today New Zealand’s highest court has confirmed that stopping young people from voting is a breach of our human rights...The government and Parliament cannot ignore such a clear legal and moral message. They must let us vote.”

With public celebrations taking place following the All Blacks (men's) Rugby World Cup wins (2011 & 2015) as well as parades for the America's cup team, do you think similar celebration plans are needed for our winning Black Ferns women?

The dinosaur who voiced "Petrol forever" during the NPDC meeting where Tesla's proposal to install a bank of fast chargers in a NPDC carpark was turned down together with our short sighted Council are quickly becoming an embarrassment in respect of their shortsightedness over EV uptake.
No real issue for those of us who own EVs here in the New Plymouth area as we charge at homebefore embarking on our out of town journeys, and then again when we get home, but as per this morning's discussion those who visit here see us as an underdeveloped backwater, if they don't just divert their travels to avoid Taranaki. Intending New Plymouth EV owners please note that most of us undertake around 90% of our charging at home so this issue is only relevant when out of province trips are planned.
