Have you kept an eye on Marine Parade's recent changes?
Napier's new skate park will be an early Christmas present for users. Despite new ramps still being built, charges and a name still being decided by Napier City Council, an open day is planned for December 17. The new skate park was developed to suit all wheel sports, including skateboarding, scootering, in-line skating and creative skating. It will also be able to be used for events, with the old Marineland grandstand revamped for spectator seating.
The park will be managed by the council, rather than Napier Skating Club, however this will be reviewed in a year.
Stage two of the Marine Parade redevelopment project should be finished by 2017. It runs from the Sunken Gardens to the old Marineland site and includes water features, sculptures, furniture and landscaped areas inspired by Maori mythology and the environment.
