chlorinated water: A health warning
In 2017 the Director General of Health ordered that ALL municipal water supplies had to be treated - relying on the Havelock North Water Inquiry which in turn relied on outdated claims by the World Health Organisation that chlorinated water is "safe". It isn't. But NCC staff have relied on the same outdated information in their March 2019 Chlorination Review which quotes the WHO in the section titled "Proof that Chlorine is Effective". The Ministry of Health must re-consider the 2017 directive, given the health risks revealed in recent scientific research. Just one example: the association between water chlorination and the development of colorectal carcinoma is well established: colorectal carcinomas are the third most common tumour worldwide. World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, 15 April 2016
The Dutch decided to stop using chlorine because of the 1973 discovery that chlorinated water is harmful to humans. It’s time we caught on. Councils need to find out how Christchurch is providing safe drinking water without using chlorine.

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
