A day in the life of a Silverdale yellow watch firefighter
Ever wondered what a day in the life of a yellow watch firefighter would be like? "Yellow watch" refers to the paid crew who work Monday to Friday, day shifts to support all volunteer brigade.
As part of the Rodney Times Neighbourly series - a day in the life of ..., reporter Renee Clayton spent the day with firefighters Jim Maclean, Paul Johnson, Jason Coleman and Conor Smith from the Silverdale Fire Station.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
