Heavy snow and rain in Southland
Strong and cold south to southeasterly winds are expected to bring wintry conditions to the south of the South Island through to late Tuesday. Snow has fallen to 400 to 600 metres in the areas. Further snow is expected to continue through to Tuesday morning, with significant snow accumulations above 700 metres. A Heavy Snow Warning is still in force for northern Southland and Central Otago. The wet onshore flow is expected to bring significant rainfall to eastern Otago, and the heavy rain Watch there has now been upgraded to a full warning. Keep up to date here
