An 'Alternate' Easter Message

Phil from Eastbourne

‘Is it true?’ my children reported,
‘The bunny’s not coming’ the eldest retorted,
‘The world must have ended’ a second voice lended,
‘Are there no eggs?’ the third voice then blended,
‘What can we do?’ the chorus then added,
‘Has Easter vanished?’ The mood quickly … View more
‘Is it true?’ my children reported,
‘The bunny’s not coming’ the eldest retorted,
‘The world must have ended’ a second voice lended,
‘Are there no eggs?’ the third voice then blended,
‘What can we do?’ the chorus then added,
‘Has Easter vanished?’ The mood quickly saddened.

‘No!’ said their mother in a lightning reply,
‘We’re changing the rules, we’ll give it a try’,
‘This year we’re flipping the whole thing around’,
‘Are you in for a penny are you in for a pound?’
‘We’re painting some eggs and leaving them out,
for bunny to find and collect without doubt’.

‘For all those Easters he’s made us feel good,
with chocolate treats and similar food’,
‘Should we not say thanks in our own way,
to the Easter Bunny on this year’s Sunday’,
‘His bunny family is also locked down,
so let’s cheer up, there’s no need to frown’,

So to all the mums and dads on the globe,
It’s time to lay back in slippers and robe,
Let young clever minds take it from here,
yes they’ll break a few eggs and let it be clear,
it could get messy but you may want to cheer,
as you can save a few dollars at least till next year.
From the Easter Bear.

Take the kids out to search for ones that lay flat and are generally round or oblong in shape. If you don’t live near water, you should be able to get some from your local garden supply store.

Hi neighbours! SOS Business was set up to help local businesses in your community. It means you can buy gift cards from your favourite cafés, restaurants and service providers and then redeem them when they re-open after lockdown.

You can play a special part helping small businesses stay afloat during this time. Spread the word to your friends and family so that we can help as many local businesses as we can.

Thanks for being a great neighbour by being a lifeline for businesses in your community.

PS - in case you were wondering, due to the success of SOS Café, and the number of other service businesses now on the Platform, the team have rebranded to SOS Business – Save Our Small Business!

We know some of you are facing threatening and potentially harmful times at home right now. Police will be there for you if you call us.

If you are in immediate danger and can’t call 111, leave your house and get out of harm’s way. Get to a safe distance and then ask a neighbour over a fence, or a passer-by, to call 111 for you. Your safety comes first.

It’s everybody’s responsibility to speak out and keep each other safe right now. If you think something is not ok with a friend, neighbour, or colleague, it’s okay to call Police on their behalf. The person you’re worried about may not be able to speak up for themselves. You could be saving a life.

The good news is that Alert Level 4 seems to be working, so it's important that we stick to the rules, even over Easter. That means staying home and local, no visiting the bach or breaking your bubbles.

Supermarkets and other essential businesses will be closed on Good Friday, but they will be open on Easter Sunday, so there’s no need to panic buy. If you’re heading to the supermarket to get essential supplies, go with a list so you can shop fast. And remember to keep two metres away from others, and wash your hands when you get home.

We can do this Lower Hutt, let's stick together, support each other and get through.

HELP ME PLEASE….I’M LOST!!!

I I recently moved house from further up Riverside Drive in Waterloo to live in, Naenae and now I’ve lost my bearings and I’m lost!! I'm a Black and White, neutered male and microchipped. I normally wear a blue collar with two bells, but it's a safety collar so if I hook it on something it'll automatically release and fall off. I have a perfectly shaped little white bow-tie moustache, white whiskers and an inverted white triangle over my nose, the rest of my face is black. Black back and white tummy with puss-in-boots, white markings on both back legs and my front paws look like they were dipped in cream. I have a black tail curled like a koru.

I’m a very shy boy and will possibly run away when approached by someone I don’t know…..unless I’m being offered a bowl of cat biscuits!!

If noticed please phone my mum on 020 4104 3557 – Thank you SO MUCH!!

Unless you are an essential worker, the best way you can help others is by staying home and helping people from there.
Kindness is an incredibly powerful way to show you are united against COVID-19. You can make a huge difference by talking to people over the phone or online:

- Checking in on older relatives or vulnerable people to make sure they have everything they need.

- Talking to friends, whānau and neighbours over the phone to see how they are and if they need support.

These kinds of connections and offers of help will go a long way to getting others through COVID-19.
