We are lucky to have a free ambulance service and over the next few weeks it is likely to be under more pressure than normal. There are 500,000 people in the region and if 85,.000 text ONESIE to 3181 to donate $3, that would be an incredible $255,000, the cost of a new ambulance. You can also donate online at onesieday.co.nz

He obviously didn't get the memo about being a "stately royal spoonbill". I'm in a hide at Pauatahanui, but he totally knows I'm there and is clacking his just desserts spoon at me in case I was thinking of doing anything funny. Royal spoonbill/kōtuku ngutupapa (Platalea regia).

All Capital & Coast DHB and Hutt Valley DHB facilities will adopt a no-visitors policy unless there are exceptional circumstances during COVID-19 alert level 4.

These are:
• a birthing partner for women in labour
• a person supporting a patient with a disability
• a support person for a kaumātua if they require when visiting a patient
Our visitor policy webpages will be updated to reflect this shortly.
As most people should be staying isolated at home, those who are permitted to visit as part of these exceptions will be assessed at the front door and their details will be registered.
During alert level 4, we are prioritising urgent and acute services, and rescheduling planned procedures and outpatient appointments where safe to do so.
We are contacting all affected patients but if you have not heard from us, and are unsure whether to come to your scheduled appointment, please phone Hutt 04 566 6999 the day before your appointment to confirm.
Please note that emergency and urgent services are not affected.
We will continue to provide patients and the public with information as developments progress.
Thank you all for your support at this time.

We understand that it can tough when a member of your whānau is in hospital and you can’t visit.

Our dedicated teams are making sure your loved one is supported and looked after during this challenging time.
If you have emergency items for your whānau member (i.e. urgent medication or prescription glasses), you can drop these off at our coffee cart entrance next to ED between 8am-6pm, and our patient welfare team will arrange for these to be delivered. Please make sure they are in a bag and labelled with your whānau member’s name.

To ensure that we keep our patients and staff safe, we cannot accept food or other non-essential items. Meals, blankets and all other essential needs are provided within the hospital.

Remember that our hospitals have free wifi, so you can stay connected with your loved one if they have a mobile device.

Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe.
