24-hour police patrols in Stokes Valley after brawl
Police are promising round the clock presence in the Lower Hutt suburb of Stokes Valley until they establish who was involved in a brawl at a local park yesterday.
Locals reported fighting involving patched gang members at Delaney Park. The fight, which residents say involved about 50 gang members, had police searching houses and cars in the area on Sunday afternoon. No arrests were made, no weapons were found, and there were no reported injuries resulting from the fight.
Anyone with information can contact Hutt Valley police on (04) 560 2600 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Read more about the incident here
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
