Consented sewage overflows at Hinemoa Street and Malone Road

Callum from Hutt City Council

Due to the extreme rainfall yesterday and last night, untreated sewage from the Hinemoa Street and Malone Road sewage pumping stations overflowed into the Waiwhetu Stream (consented discharges).

Overflow from the Hinemoa Street pumping station stopped at 6am this morning. Overflow from the Malone Road pumping station stopped at 9pm last night.

Council's environmental health officers will be inspecting the areas for any visible signs of contamination, and warning signs have been erected advising against swimming in, or fishing from the stream.

Water quality testing is currently being undertaken. Remember, no swimming (or collecting seafood) from harbours, rivers and streams for 48 hours after heavy rain.
