Double bedroom for rent in Waterloo
I have a double bedroom (3.6m x 3.3m) available to rent in Waterloo. The room is at the rear of the house, and gets the morning sun. It is furnished with a corner television unit (TV not included), a bookcase, and has a built in wardrobe. It has a double bed (this can be removed if you wish) but could also fit a Queen bed. There is an alcove into which a standard sized computer desk fits. There is a Sky dish on the house, so you could install Sky multi-room in your bedroom at your own monthly cost (currently $25 per month).
The rent is $175 and covers unlimited Fibre WiFi, refuse collection, monitored burglar alarm, and phone line with local calls.
Would happily consider someone who lives out of town, but needs accommodation during the week. Utility costs would be pro-rated.
Bond is 2 weeks rent, and rent must be paid 2 weeks in advance, so total move in price is $700.
The house is fully insulated, with double glazed windows and doors, continuous flow hot water, gas central heating and HRV = snug, warm and dry. There are decks front and rear, and a modern spacious kitchen with roof windows that flood the kitchen with natural light. The bathroom is shared, and contains a bath and a separate shower stall, plus a bidet toilet. The house has gas central heating, HRV system and a monitored burglar alarm.
It is a short 5 minute walk to the Waterloo railway station, where the express train takes approx. 16 minutes in to Wellington. All Hutt Valley line trains stop at Waterloo, which is the central station for Hutt City.
Amenities in the area - Waterloo station, various takeaways, café, launderette, & more. 3 min drive to Queensgate.
Additional costs - Utility bills and communal items like toilet paper and laundry liquid will be shared.
To share with the owner (mature female professional), plus one very friendly ginger cat.
Ideal flatmate - Female, non smoker, clean, tidy, respectful. No drugs. No criminal convictions. References required.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.

scumbags
There are some really awful people around at the moment. This is what happened on Sunday.
We live in Hinemoa Street opposite the Waiwhetu Stream. At around 3.40 in the afternoon I was looking out my window and saw a car pull up and start to feed the geese and ducks out the window. Then The passenger an asian man jumped out and threw himself onto a goose. he picked it up and put it the boot of the car.
I immediately ran over and stood in front of his car to stop him moving I also called my husband to help. A lovely man was riding his bike and saw it and stopped to help me. The driver tried to drive into me but I didnt move. He tried telling us it was his pet. These are wild geese.
They had a cage in the boot and some wire all ready to catch the poor bird like they have done it before. My husband took the bird from the car and released it. I then moved out of the way and after lots of abuse from the driver they drove off threatening to come back and get more.
No one should be allowed to take these beautiful birds and certainly not like this. they are all starting to have wee babies at the moment the whole thing was so upsetting to me. Another neighbour further down the road also saw it all happen.
Please keep a look out for this car and if you see them by the stream go over and watch them lets all stop this happening.
