PRIVACY CHANGES WORLDWIDE THAT WILL AFFECT KIWIS
Many of you may have received messages from a number of international brands like Google, Twitter and eBay about updates to their privacy policies and how they use your data.
The messages are in response to changes to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that come into effect today, 25 May 2018. These changes aim to protect EU citizens from privacy and data breaches, by requiring organisations to be more transparent and to let you know how they use your data. This will affect NZers also.
This means that as a customer, you could receive messages about updates to their privacy policies and how they use your data.
There are a few simple things you can do to help keep your information safe: Take the time to read the privacy policies of a website, before you hand over your personal details. Regularly review the policy as privacy policies can change. Only make online purchases from companies that have a clear privacy policy and secure payment pages.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
