Transport update
Good morning, we hope you had a more restful evening last night.
8:00am UPDATE
WORK OR SCHOOLS:
Central Wellington and Lower Hutt are open for business today but do check in with your employers or landlords on the status of your workplace.
Check directly with your employer, school and/or day care to see if they will be open.
Keep yourselves safe: do not go sightseeing, and watch for uneven surfaces or debris and glass underfoot. Avoid areas that have been cordoned off. It is also advised to stay out of the water today.
TRANSPORT
ROADS: Are all open, but please drive to the conditions, we have a high wind and heavy rain warning across the region today
TRAINS: All services on the Wellington network have been given clearance to return to normal, except the Wairarapa line which will run at a reduced capacity.
The Capital Connection will be replaced by buses.
BUSES: Bus diversions will be in place through central Wellington today as inspections continue on CBD buildings following the recent earthquakes and high winds overnight. All stops in Manners Street, Lower Willis Street and Lambton Quay are closed. Check the Metlink site for further details.
PARKING: Some parking buildings are still being assessed and it is likely that some will be closed today. Queensgate is closed today.
The Lower Hutt Riverbank Car Park is closing at 8:10am.
FERRIES: East By West ferry is not running. Interislander is running with vehicle passengers only. Bluebridge is running but with disruptions.
Wellington airport is fully operational.
COUNCIL FACILITIES
All community halls are open for those that have made bookings. The Hutt CIty i-SITE will also open today.
A call on The Dowse Art Musuem, the six pools, the Walter Nash Centre, and eight libraries around the city will be made later this morning.
BUSINESS & BUILDINGS
If you are a tenant of a building that has suffered structural damage please notify the owner in the first instance and then inform Council of the address. We are working as quickly as possible to carry out rapid assessments of high risk buildings and those that have sustained structural damage.
Queensgate is being assessed by engineers and will be closed Tuesday 15 November.
WATER & POWER
Water is safe to drink including artesian water.
Please report any water problems to Hutt City Council on 04 570 6666 and we will log a job with Wellington Water.
With heavy rain forecast for our region. If safe to do so please clear the sumps and drains around your house and if you see any flooding contact Council on 04 570 6666.
Wellington Water says water treatment plants are functioning properly. There are no reports of reservoir damage or bulk supply issues.
ELECTRICITY
There are currently no known outages, visit the Wellington Electricity website to check any outages.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
