Heavy rain for north Canterbury and the eastern hills of Wellington
Periods of heavy rain are expected about Wairarapa, the Tararua District, Marlborough including the Sounds and the northwestern ranges of Nelson, and a Heavy Rain Warning is in force for these areas.
Rain is expected about remaining central areas today and Tuesday, with persistent falls about the eastern hills of Wellington and Canterbury north of the Waimakariri river, especially about the hill country, and a Watch is in force for these areas.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case parts of this Watch are upgraded to a full Warning or other areas are added. Keep up to date here

Hīkoi to parliament
Traffic heading into Wellington City has eased, however motorists should continue to expect significant delays in the city.
Hīkoi mō te Tiriti has reached Waitangi Park, with Police reporting no issues from this morning’s movements.
Another group of about 2000 people from the Hutt Valley began arriving at the Wellington Railway Station at around 8:30am.
The hīkoi is expected to begin their walk to Parliament along the Golden Mile (Courtenay Place, Manners Street, Willis Street and Lambton Quay) at 9am.
