Storm repairs

Alison McKone from Citizens Advice Bureau Lower Hutt

Hi team.
Just a few things to note when sorting out repairs following the storm.

- Take photos of the damage and take all reasonable steps to minimize the loss. It helps your insurers to assess your claim

- Be clear on the scope of work. Write it down and get quotes in writing (Email or text is fine).

- If extra work is needed, then get that discussed BEFORE the extra work starts.

- Be cautious if full payment is demanded up front, (you might not see the person again).

- Pay a deposit to secure the job, negotiate progress payments with the tradie - they have bills to pay too.

- Hold back a small amount until you are satisfied that the work has been completed.

Here are a couple of articles that might help. Check out our website www.CAB.org.nz... or give us a call 04 5666039

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
