3 easy steps to improving your relationship in 2017

Ann from Relationship Wellbeing Specialist

Is it time to devote some attention to your relationship in 2017

The Christmas holidays are often most stressful time for couples but it’s easy to forget this once the holidays gone.

If you’re in a relationship, you may find yourself getting frustrated with your partner for no particular reason, or you notice you’re fighting more than usual. These feeling are actually common.

You may have less time to spend with your partner and greater financial obligations but you can use 2017 to improve your relationship, by making but meaningful efforts.

Here are 3 easy steps to improving your relationship in 2017

1. Schedule one-one time
Now the holidays are coming to an end, normal schedules return, time and energy become low.
This is exactly why it’s good to schedule time alone with your partner. You don’t have to go out, or spend on fancy dinners, eat with the TV off, and talk with each other. Relationships thrive when communication is healthy.

2. Schedule sex and make time for intimacy
Although this tip makes some people roll their eyes at what they perceive as boring life monogamists, scheduling sex can revive connection.
When you and your partner choose a time for intimacy, ideally at least once a week, you consciously make a space for your sex life, which is very important for the keeping your relationship healthy.

3. Deal with conflict with respect and fight fair
This fact is relevant for relationships all the time, but especially critical during periods of stress.
Relationships can survive fights, and grow stronger through them, but only if they’re fair.
Bring up the issue that’s troubling you, start the communication at the right time, and softly.
Asking open-ended questions allows your partner to look deeper at their side of the issue, and leaves room for compassion. What, how and when questions are good- Why is hard for someone to answer, and derails the process.
