The Common Grocer
We are a membership-based grocery co-operative based at the Remakery in Waiwhetu Road.
Members pay a small annual fee and give a few hours of their time in exchange for accessing food and household items at extremely low prices. We have staple items such as flour, rice, sugar, pasta etc, as well as other household items such as dishwashing liquid and epsom salts. We also stock free range eggs from Wairarapa eggs for $4.80 per dozen, or 40 cents each if you just need one!
There are three membership options:
Option 1 – Pay $1 each time you shop + work in the store 2 hours per month
Option 2 – Pay $52 up front + work in the shop 1 hour per month
Option 3 - Pay $100 up front
Only buy what you need -
Most of our items are available in bulk bins – meaning you can purchase as much or as little as you need.
Bring your own containers -
We are plastic-free and encourage our members to bring their own containers. We do have paper bags available for 20c each or sterilised jars for 50c. We also have a range of fabric bags available to purchase.
What's your favourite recipe for courgettes?
Kia ora neighbours. If you've got a family recipe for courgettes, we'd love to see it and maybe publish it in our magazine. Send your recipe to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz, and if we use it in the mag, you will receive a free copy of our January 2025 issue.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
