Severe weather warning for Westland
A front, preceded by a strong and moist northwesterly flow, moves onto Fiordland Wednesday night. The front is expected to bring a period of heavy rain to the west of the South Island, before weakening over central New Zealand Thursday evening.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Area: The ranges of Westland south of Otira
Valid: 12 hours from 11:00pm Wednesday to 11:00am Thursday
Forecast: Expect 80 to 110mm of rain. Peak rates of 25 to 35mm per hour, especially in possible thunderstorms.
