Tree removal on Ohawini Road
We love having "landmark" trees in our District and this pohutukawa is a good example. Unfortunately it has been slowly tipping over the road, so we sent someone to investigate.
The report from our Parks and Recreation Technical Officer says: "The main leader has clearly moved significantly over the last five years, which would indicate possible root damage is occurring under the road surface. This tree now poses a risk to road users and this is a high volume road in the summer months."
We have scheduled removal for Wednesday 14 September 2022, and plan to replant in this location in Autumn. The tree is on Ohawini Road, just to the south of Parutahi Beach.
