Mayor and councillor by-election

Communications from Hastings District Council

All those enrolled to vote in this month’s election for a Hastings mayor and councillor will receive voting papers in their letterboxes later this week or early next week (papers are posted out on November 2) . Everyone in the Hastings district will get voting papers for the mayoral by-election, while those in the Havelock North/Hastings ward will also get to vote in the councillor by-election. If your enrolment is not up to date or you are not yet enrolled, you can lodge a special vote from November 2 by coming into the council offices on Lyndon in person, or by contacting the Electoral Officer on 06 871 5018.
Remember, this is a postal vote – so put your voting papers in the supplied freepost envelope and put them in the mail, or drop the envelope into the ballot box at Council on Lyndon Rd. For more information see:

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
