Another potential mayoral contender for Hamilton
Former Labour Hamilton East MP Jamie Strange, who voluntarily left Parliament in 2023, has confirmed he’s now considering a tilt at the Hamilton mayoralty this year.
His comments come in the wake of incumbent mayor Paula Southgate announcing she won’t run again, while three potential “conservative” contenders on the current council are thinking about having a go.
Have you got an amazing shed? Show us!
Last year, Whangārei's Angela Lucas and Mike Mattin, pictured here with Cashew, saw their “tilted” shed named Resene Shed of the Year. They received a $1599 GARDENA SILENO City 250 robot lawnmower and $1000 worth of Resene paints/wood stains, as well as a one-year subscription to NZ Gardener. This year's prizes are up for grabs, so it's time to send in the photos and the stories behind your man caves, she sheds, clever upcycled spaces, potty potting sheds and colourful chicken coops.
Poll: Have you ever had anything stolen from you at the hospital?
Waikato Hospital is meant to be a place of healing and compassion with people usually at their low point, however that hasn’t stopped those with sticky fingers adding to people’s woes.
A notable theft is that of a $30,000 piece of artwork, taken in broad daylight just before Christmas.

Did you know National politicians were in town?

Luxon and National MPs will meet in Hamilton on Wednesday morning for the party’s annual “caucus retreat”, typically seen as the start of the political year. Labour will similarly be holding a retreat in Palmerston North this week.
