Poll: Have you witnessed shoplifting in your area?

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

It’s a crime that generates losses of $2.6bn a year, was the catalyst for a notorious murder, claimed the scalp of a high-profile MP - and has prompted the Government to propose beefed up citizens arrest powers - but how bad is shoplifting in New Zealand?

Under the Official Information Act, the Waikato Times asked how many Kiwis were charged - and convicted - for two discrete crimes; shoplifting under $500, and shoplifting over $1000.
