"Taranaki Prophets". On the 6th of April 1864 a strong patrol set out from the fort at Kaitake, south of New Plymouth: a company each of imperial and colonial infantry, under Captain T.J.W. Lloyd of the 57th, who had just arrived from England. The patrol's mission was to burn crops in abandoned villages. Suddenly, they were attacked by Maori warriors yelling a new war cry..."Hau Hau Hau!". The surprised troops were routed, Captain Lloyd and six others were killed and twelve wounded.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
