🐾Cats Paws 🐾

Hamilton Small Animal Veterinary Centre

🐾Have You Ever Looked At Your Cats Paws?🐾
They are quite amazing!🐈💕

🐈Have you noticed the pads on your cats paws are colour coordinated with either their fur or nose colour. Check it out.👀

🐈‍⬛Their claws retract into the paw pads to protect them from catching in things. The only member of the cat family unable to retract their claws is a Cheetah.

🐈The front paws have more toes than the back paws. The extra toes are called dewclaws which are like thumbs and are found a bit higher up. Cats use them when hunting.

🐈‍⬛Some cats can have extra toes and are called polydactyl. Does your cat have extra toes?🐾

🐈The paw pad acts as a sponge and works in conjunction with their tongue for cleaning and washing themselves.

🐈‍⬛The grooves on cats paws hold scent glands, when they scratch items or knead you, they leave their scent markers behind. This is a warning to other cats that this is their territory. This scent is unique to each cat.

🐈They get sweaty paws like we get sweaty palms when nervous.

🐈‍⬛They act as shock absorbers when landing from a jump.

🐈Kneading with their paws means they are in a moment of true happiness.

🐈‍⬛Cats walk on their toes like dinosaurs did, this make them quieter when sneaking up on prey and faster to run from predators.

❤️We recommend you do regular checks on you cats paws, even if there are no signs of lameness. Check for cuts, cracks, foreign bodies, redness and swelling. Paws do amazing things.❤️

Happy Friday everyone, have a wonderful weekend with your Pawsome Fur Friends!💕

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
