
Poll: What are your thoughts on a 60kph speed limit?
In a significant u-turn, a majority of people surveyed are now supporting a speed limit reduction on Wairere Drive that is part of consent conditions for a major new Pak’nSave supermarket in Te Rapa.
Wednesday’s city council traffic, speed limit and road closure hearings panel is due to hear and consider verbal public submissions on the issue and prepare a report for consideration by the next full council meeting on 30 April.

One of the region’s premier tourist locations is shaking off its long Covid hangover as a new caving experience opens near Waitomo promising local jobs, and a boost to visitor numbers after the pandemic decimated local businesses.
Co-owner and founder of The Waitomo Experience, John Heskett said pre-Covid there were more than five black water rafting operators working in the caves beneath Waitomo, but that number dropped down to just one.
