Central Library will be closed for one week from this Saturday (5 March) due to staff shortages. We will review this after one week.
We’re as disappointed as you are, but isolation requirements mean we simply do not have enough people to keep all six libraries running safely.
On a happier note - Chartwell, St Andrews, Dinsdale, Hillcrest and Glenview Libraries will remain open. You’ll also still be able to return books to the Central Library while it’s closed through the return chute.

Thanks for bearing with us, we hope this won’t last long!

The South Waikato District Council is currently reviewing its Class 4 gambling venues policy. You can you’re your say on its proposed policy until Friday 4 March.

What is the council proposing? The South Waikato District Council is proposing to retain its sinking lid policy. This means the Council will not grant consent for the establishment of any new class 4 venues, TAB venues, or gaming machines. Their relocation and clubs merger clauses remain unchanged in this policy review.

We are encouraging the Council to retain its sinking lid policy and prohibit relocations or club mergers. A sinking lid is the best policy to control the growth of gambling and minimise harm.
