Ngāi Tahu pull out of West Coast Conservation Board - again
Ngāi Tahu representatives have once again pulled out of the West Coast Tai Poutini Conservation Board, accusing the Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage of an unlawful appointments process.
Sage recently reappointed board chairman Keith Morfett for a second term and replaced Buller member Coraleen White, who had served two terms, with Rotomanu farmer Katie Milne, the recently retired national president of Federated Farmers.
The appointment round followed complaints from West Coast councils and tangata whenua that the board had been "stacked' with environmentalists and did not reflect the West Coast community.
