WanderSearch Canterbury Charitable Trust - assisting people with a cognitive disability that wander
WanderSearch Canterbury (www.wandersearch.nz) have been providing this service in Canterbury since 2010. We cover all of Canterbury including Methven, Oxford, Cust and Ashburton. Recently one of our clients, who was wearing a Wandatrak device, was located safe and well in central Christchurch using our tracking equipment. They had wandered from their care facility and ended up sliding into a drain in an isolated area. Without the Wandatrak device it is unlikely they would have been located until it was too late. The provision of this service is only possible through the assistance of volunteers and by obtaining donations and grants. In order to expand to help more people in our community we need funding to cover costs for a part-time administrator as well as our ongoing costs in supplying devices and 6 monthly battery changes. We were lucky enough to receive a $2000 grant from AMI a couple of years ago which enabled us to purchase 6 devices. We need further assistance to be able to continue to provide this service in Canterbury. It would be fantastic to be on the receiving end of another grant which would be put to great use. Thanks AMI :)
