As a result water in this area is now clearing.
Due to the quick response from residents and contractors, the clouded water was contained around Russley Road to Avonhead Road between Yaldhurst Road and Memorial Ave.
We advise residents living in this area to run an outside tap for 10-15 minutes to remove any remaining cloudy water from household pipes.
Further flushing and testing will be continued this afternoon. Test results will be available mid-afternoon tomorrow.
While we do not believe the current situation requires us to recommend people to boil water this is something they can do, as a precautionary measure, if they have any concerns.
POST: We are investigating why water in some parts of the north west of the city is coming out of the tap cloudy. The Council had received number of calls from the public this morning about the quality of the water, mainly in the Avonhead- Russley area.
The water was in the process of being tested and the network was also being flushed. The pump station which is believed to be the cause of the discolouration has been shut down.
We are hoping to get to the bottom of it very quickly but in the meantime if people have any concerns they should, as a precaution, boil the water before drinking it or use bottled water.
We will keep residents updated as we receive information.
