Extra patrols in student community after home invasions in Christchurch

Jake Kenny Reporter from Community News

Police will be doing extra patrols around the University of Canterbury after a man tried to rape three women in their homes.

A 45-year-old man appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday afternoon, after he allegedly broke into five Upper Riccarton houses between 6 and 7am that morning.

He is accused of targeting five women – three of whom he allegedly tried to rape. One of the attacks involved suffocation.

A University of Canterbury spokesperson said their Student Care team was offering support to students who had been affected, and there would be a special considerations process for their upcoming exams.
