More than 3,000 homes lost power this morning
Power has been restored to most homes after an underground cable fault cut power to more than 3000 properties in south Christchurch. Power went off in the suburbs of Beckenham, Cashmere, Huntsbury, Somerfield, St Martins and Sydenham at 7.14am on Tuesday.
An Orion spokeswoman said at 8.45am only 67 homes in Waimea Tce in Beckenham were without power but a generator would give them power by 10am. Read more from The Press here.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
