Strong wind gusts could damage trees, power lines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Valid: 26 hours from 1:00pm Wednesday to 3:00pm Thursday
Forecast: Severe northwest gales gusting 130 km/h

Area: Canterbury Plains including Christchurch and Banks Peninsula
Valid: 21 hours from 6:00pm Wednesday to 3:00pm Thursday
Forecast: Northwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places at times, especially near the foothills and about Banks Peninsula.

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
