Last year, Greytown magician Paul Bates' Tardis-inspired shed was declared the Shed of the Year. This year, Resene and NZ Gardener are once again on the hunt for the country's best shed! Send in the photos and stories behind your man caves, she sheds, clever storage spaces, cute chicken coops and potty potting sheds. The Resene Shed of the Year 2022 winners will receive prizes worth more than $2200. Just tell us in writing why your garden shed is New Zealand's best, and send up to five high-quality photos. Reflecting on when she first moved to the leafy village, Marie says, “Sarah (Guest Service Manager) got to know me in the first week. I had dinner with her.” Adding with a smile, “The chef here is absolutely marvelous.”
But Marie’s social life isn’t limited to delicious dinner dates; there’s always something happening at The Bellevue. “Sarah gets to know the residents and what they want to do. Everyone is different and has different needs. She’ll arrange things for what we want to do.”
Our Care Suites not only offer both Rest Home and Hospital care but feel like home too, with a living area, kitchenette and ensuite. And Marie couldn’t be happier. “I love my room. I have a little outside patio area. I can boil the jug and make myself a cup of tea and I can entertain friends. I have miles of photos up. I like having lots of photos around me.”
At The Bellevue, Marie has found that feeling many of us are searching for, “I wake up every morning and feel good.”

It has taken more than a decade, but Christchurch’s central city population has finally passed pre-quake numbers thanks to record home building.
The latest Statistics New Zealand estimate puts the population inside the city’s four avenues at 8080. This compares with about 8000 pre-quake and 5000 in 2013, but remains well short of the city council’s 20,000 target.
After a slow start to the central city residential rebuild, the real estate boom has led to developers competing for central city land, and selling out before construction begins. Almost all the new homes are in multi-unit blocks. Read more here.
