Boil water notice continues for homes in Christchurch's Mt Pleasant
Hundreds of people in Christchurch's Mt Pleasant face having to boil their water over the weekend to protect against potential contamination.
Residents in parts of the suburb were urged on Wednesday afternoon to boil their water after a loss of pressure in the mains supplying the area left up to 300 properties without water.
Christchurch's water network relies on constant pressure to stop contaminants entering pipes, and when it drops pollutants can get in when the water begins flowing again.
City council officials said testing had not uncovered any problems, but urged people to boil all water for drinking, preparing food, washing utensils, brushing teeth or making ice as a precaution.
Water reticulation manager Tim Drennan said: "There are no signs of contamination at this stage but we would like to continue testing for a few more days so we can be sure there are no issues."
