Bishop chooses demolition for Christchurch's historic Catholic cathedral
The historic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Christchurch is going to be demolished.
Catholic bishop Paul Martin said the 113-year-old building was too expensive to restore and favoured demolishing the cathedral and building a new one for about $40 million on a site closer to the city centre.
He said the earthquake-damaged building on Barbadoes St would cost about $149m to fully restore, while just saving the central part of the building would cost $91m and not be fit for purpose.
Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
