Makerspace for young people 15-25 / donation requests
Hi everyone,
I volunteer at a makerspace at the city YMCA called the 4C centre. We have 3D printers, CNC machines, a laser cutter, an audio/visual creation suite, electronics, and all the tech you could imagine!
We are still new and getting a feel for our direction- we welcome new members (just a $20 one off fee!) and run classes on all the tech with the help of our volunteers.
We are looking for donations of materials to use in our projects. I’m wondering whether anyone on neighbourly has ideas of organisations we could ask - even off-cuts or spare bits would be appreciated. We have a whole workshop set up and so many inspired youth but art and creation has to start somewhere!

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
