Like many thousands of people in New Zealand (and the world) I've gone past concern to frustration and now anger about the level of unwanted plastics in my life and the damage being caused in our environment now and into the long-term future. In NZ we have very poor recycling systems and NONE for soft plastics - and no solution for awful things like polystyrene packing...
And while some good things are happening (like bans on shopping bags and straws and the MfE proposal on Product Stewardship) - global oil companies are investing US$180 billion (!!!) in new plastic plants with the aim of INCREASING plastic production 40% (yes!!) over the next 10 years.
So clearly - regardless of the choices we make personally in our lives, these are of tiny effect when faced with that grand industrial plan. I have concluded that the problem has to be stopped at source through Government legislation and policy...And so here's my idea:
WE LITERALLY SEND THE PROBLEM TO PARLIAMENT and demand immediate meaningful action. It is FREE to send mail to MPs in Parliament - so that's what I intend to get 1000s of NZers doing - relentlessly. I'd like you to be one of them.
If this is something you think yopu could support - please join my Facebook Group - PLASTIC2PARLIAMENT - at:
m.facebook.com...
Thanks
