E-scooters approved for six-month trial on Selwyn streets

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

The Selwyn District Council has adopted a new traffic and parking bylaw that allows up to 250 Lime and Lava e-scooters to be used on the streets of Rolleston, Lincoln and Prebbleton from Thursday.

The council voted in October to allow the trial, but changes had to be made to the bylaw first to make it legal for the e-scooters to be used and parked on Selwyn streets.

Under the conditions of the trial licence, the e-scooters will be allowed to operate in Rolleston, Lincoln and Prebbleton, and to travel between the towns using cycle lanes.

Reduced speed limits will be in place for council reserves, and near halls and community centres. The e-scooters will not be allowed in council cemeteries.
