Large concrete wall blocks central Christchurch street for convention centre

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

A once thriving central Christchurch thoroughfare now runs into a giant concrete wall, but the developers say the site will be "wrapped with pedestrian-friendly spaces" eventually.

Gloucester St in central Christchurch has become a dead end thanks to a new concrete wall built for the new convention centre Te Pae.

A spokesman for Crown rebuild company Ōtākaro, which is developing the convention centre, said the concrete wall would eventually be obscured by a separate new development. Once the convention centre was complete, there would be a footpath running around the new building to the river.
