Fatbags for birds suggestion

Marion from Richmond

After watching starlings initially dominate the waxeyes over the fatbags we'd put up, I noticed that once the fatbag had shrunk enough, the starlings could no longer land. So after putting up 2 new fatbags today I made a circular "lid" for one out of a bit of lino. The waxeyes can still come in from the side and even hang upside down from the "lid" but the starlings can't hover or fly in from the side. I've left the second fatbag for the starlings.
I guess an old plastic lampshade would do or an old paint tin lid - even cardboard would last for the life of the fatbag. Cheers - John
PS No starlings were harmed - just annoyed!

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
