Should the city council extend its one-hour free parking scheme?
Central city retailers are urging the Christchurch City Council to extend its free inner city parking scheme, saying their new retail precinct needs help to compete with malls, especially with the arrival of winter.
The call comes after more than 380 people wrote submissions to the council urging it to extend the one-hour free parking at the Lichfield St and Art Gallery car parks beyond June 30. Another 95 are against it and about 30 have some concerns.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
