Happy Friday neighbours,

Andrew Luddington is hoping he will have a little luck when he takes on a gruelling ride from Christchurch to Akaroa, all while dressed as Darth Vader.

Luddington is preparing to transform into the Star Wars villain for the upcoming 100-kilometre Miles Continental Le Race cycle event, on an all-steel, 12-speed bike from 1978.

The 55-year-old will be among hundreds of participants at the start line on Saturday, blasting Star Wars music from a megaphone attached to his 40-year-old bike while in full Sith Lord attire.

Have you checked out Le Race before?

“Welcome to Christchurch, the land of the long grey dust cloud.”

Residents of the city's western suburbs face having 252 hectares of new quarries on their doorstep in 18 months, pending approval from councils and the environment court.

But the community says it is being ground down by the aggregate industry, with quarries allowed to set up shop as near as 90 metres from houses, and spewing what many feel is dangerous dust into the air.

Want to tell the city council how to spend your money? Now you can.

If you have a view on tackling climate change, charging heavy water users or how rates should be spent, now is the time to let the council know.

For the next month the public can provide feedback on the council's proposed 10-year budget, known as the long-term plan.

The budget sets out a vision for how the council will spend money over the next decade, and is re-evaluated and ratified every three years.

The public can give their feedback through the council website, on the Have Your Say page, until April 18.

What suggestions would you make?

Hey neighbours,
are you using the long weekend to tackle that long-over due reno? Or do you have a project you'd love to do in your home or garden but don't know where to start?

The experts at Resene are offering to help answer all your painting and decorating questions. Whether it's how to choose the right type of paint to cover a stain, how to go about planning a mural, or how long you really need to spend on sanding down that woodwork, they're happy to help.

Send us your question at homed@stuff.co.nz or leave it in the comments and we'll put the best questions to the Resene team (please note: we may not be able to answer every single question). The answers will be published in an article on Stuff ahead of the long weekend.

If you don't want us to use your comment or name on Stuff, please mention that in your post.

Semi-retired Alexandra lawyer Gordon Rayner is a prime example of the Kiwi “silver” travellers who are propping up the tourism industry.

His overseas itinerary for 2020 was supposed to include a sailing trip to Fiji, watching wildlife in the Australian outback, rafting in Russia and a road trip through the United States.

Instead, the 63-year-old and wife Mary Tritt visited Northland and the Marlborough Sounds, sailed the Hauraki gulf, made eight mountain biking and cycle trail trips, fished on charter boats in the Bay of Islands, and spent $24,000 on a bucket-list cruise to the subantarctic islands.

Have you switched your holiday plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic? Have you visited part of New Zealand you haven't been to before - or for a long time - or are you planning to? Read more about NZ's 'silver' travellers here and tell us about your experiences in the comments below.
