Friday's jet boating events cancelled at Balclutha

Reporter Clutha Leader

The Jet Boating New Zealand circuit races have been cancelled at Balclutha because of high winds.

Competitors could not race in conditions when there was a high risk of boats flipping, Otago branch spokesman Fraser Morrison, of Stirling said.

The 50 kilometre circuit races were to have been held Friday morning on the Clutha River.

The Otago Rivers Jet Boat race which was to be held on Friday afternoon will not start at Balclutha as scheduled.

Instead, it was hoped it would begin at Clydevale, about 20 minutes away at 2pm, where there was more shelter and would race to Roxburgh if conditions allowed.

Circuit and river racing is to continue at Glenorchy on Saturday and Wanaka on Sunday.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
