Tui Glen Park, Henderson Waitakere

Brian from Henderson

During the last School Holidays I took my Foster Children to Tui Glen Park for the after, The play ground was crouded and the kids were so dissapointed that the 2 towers that have a netting covered bridge between the towers was boarded off, After looking at all the other items at the park, which was Commisioned back in 2012, All these items, flying fox, climing frames swings etc, all have little plates attached showing the Commisioning Date, there has been no recorded on these plates of when maintenance done on any of the items in park since Comissioning. It's time our parks for our Tamariki are made 100% safe, instead of them being boarded up like the towers are.
Enclosed is my letter to Auckland City Council.
Good afternoon, Today I was really dissappointed after taking my Tamariki to the Tui Glen Park today, It was no different back in the last school holidays, What use to be a really wonderful and safe Park/play ground for our young Tamariki of Auckland City, is now unmaintained and could be considered as dangerous, What use to be an awesome park, that was Commisioned back in 04/2012. Each of the climbing frames, swings and flying fox's all have a small plate fixed to them, They have the Commisioning date only, there has been no obvious recorded mainenance since on any of the equipement in the park, The 2 large climbing towers with the between the towers is boarded of each each to prevent the Tamariki using the bridge because the netting is in such a delapidated state this bridge allows the smaller kids access to the 2 slides. I heard today Auckkland City Council did not want to spend the money on putting new netting over the bridge, as it was going to cost $50,000 to get from Germany, Are our children not worth spending money on to make the park safe. The Flying fox's both need urgent attention as the rollers are almost worn out, once the kids travel down the flying fox, it can't be returned back up for the next person unless it is pulled down tightly, any small child can not do this with out help. Time to step up and look after the Assets that are inplace for our Tamariki, especially in the parks over the Holiday's.  I will post this letter in the Neighborly for rest of West Auckland to see how the Auckland City council looks after our parks and does not consider the children using them.

Regards Brian
