Rangitoto College student Izzie Toman dies in crash
The family of Auckland schoolgirl Isobel Toman is mourning a teen "absolutely loved by everyone who encountered her", following her death in a car crash.
Police confirmed the 17-year-old, known as Izzie, was killed after two vehicles collided on Old North Rd in Waimauku, northwest of Auckland, about 9.06pm on Wednesday.
In a statement, Izzie's family described her as a "beautiful, gentle, kind, funny, generous, talented, humble, ambitious young lady with a passion for dance and the performing arts".
Rangitoto College principal Patrick Gale said Izzie was a "motivated, enthusiastic and well-respected student" who made a "superb" contribution to the school's culture and performing arts department.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
