Franklin Chess Club Opening Night 2019

The Franklin Chess Club 2019 Opening Night is on the 7th February in the Pukekohe Library 12 Massey Avenue upstairs in the Leslie Cromie room, hours are 7pm to 8.30pm.
We have a Club designated Coach who can Help those of us less experienced (or newcomers to our wonderful game) the following are some of what makes our Club what it is.

One of the lowest annual Chess Club membership fees in NZ of only $15 individual or $30 for a Family
Opportunity to meet like minded people in a Friendly Welcome atmosphere
New Club Rating System
Rated Club Championship (taking part optional)
Will be associated to the New Zealand Chess Federation
Interclub matches being/have been arranged versus Thames ,Hamilton Chess Clubs and others.
Organised Events such as Chess simultaneous exhibitions against FIDE titled players etc

When you come to our Club park behind the Library and come through the rear doors as the front doors are locked at that time, come along even if just to have a look that doesn`t cost anything! all are Welcome!

What workplace change would you like to see most?

This coming Monday is Labour Day in New Zealand. This public holiday marks when the eight-hour workday and 48-hour workweek became law in 1899. The idea started with Samuel Parnell, a carpenter in Wellington, who in 1840 refused to work more than eight hours a day. Since skilled workers were in short supply, his employer had to agree.

As more skilled workers arrived, employers tried to change working conditions, but Parnell and others kept pushing for better rights. In 1890, Parnell led a Labour Day parade of 1,500 people to promote the eight-hour day. He passed away shortly after, and nine years later, Labour Day became an official public holiday.
