BREAKING NEWS: Massive inferno burning at car yard
A massive fire has sent smoke billowing into the air as it rips through a Mt Wellington car yard. A video sent to the media shows a large cloud of dark smoke rising at the car yard on Carbine Rd in the Auckland suburb. Fire and Emergency NZ told no one has been injured. Three firetrucks are at the scene, including one aerial appliance. Towering flames can be seen, but a witness told they believe the blaze is under control. He said gas tanks exploded. "Flames were eating up the cars pretty fast and their gas tanks were exploding every so often, shooting small fireballs into the air," he said. "It wasn't scary until the gas tanks started exploding." The road is closed between Gabador Place and Fisher Crescent. The witness said a lot of locals were out watching the blaze. "[I] couldn't see much more through the thick smoke but it looks to be a big car yard." The inferno comes less than two weeks after a colossal blaze decimated part of the SkyCity convention centre.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
