Please help STOP Sale & Demolishing of Downtown Carpark!

Mark from Remuera

Hi there
It is not too late.
You can sign the petition to stop the sale next year.
Council want to sell it to developers, for a highrise building.

See the reasons below we should keep this valuable public amenity:
PLEASE SIGN PETITION:

PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY & FACEBOOK POST- we need more signatures, to make a difference!
thank you

PLEASE HELP TO STOP THE SALE & DEMOLISHING OF THE DOWNTOWN CARPARK -

COUNCIL WANT TO DEMOLISH IT! AND REPLACE WITH ANOTHER HIGHRISE BUILDING.

IT IS 'APPROVED FOR SALE', BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE.

We rely on this carpark for: Convenient & reasonably priced parking, in the Viaduct/Ferry area

SAFETY FOR LONE FEMALES - this is the safest carpark for lone females, or seniors to get to the viaduct/commercial bay/Queen St, and under cover.

COMMUTERS - rely on this to access their work, when they need to bring a car, to drive to after work events, or cart large items

MOTHERS WITH BABIES/CHILDREN & SENIORS - need it to go to the city easily, for appointments, without costing alot.

APARTMENT DWELLERS with no carpark, use this for reasonable priced long-term parking.

WAIHEKE DAY VISITORS & RESIDENTS rely on this carpark to be able to park on the mainland for a reasonable cost.

OTHER FERRIES - This will affect the numbers of people using the ferries to the North Shore, and other places- may as well drive, if you incur a high cost to leave your car in the CBD.

NO REGULAR CONVENIENT WIDESPREAD UNDERGROUND NETWORK/PUBLIC TRANSPORT YET IN AUCKLAND - (in any practical sense) - and so it is too soon to sell this Public Facility. e.g. We can't get 2 buses to get from Botany to the city for dinner at the viaduct or to go to work

VIADUCT / COMMERCIAL BAY BUSINESSES will be badly affected. Currently access from Downtown Carpark is under cover/sheltered. Why pay high parking costs, and walk far in high-heels, in the rain, when we can dine elsewhere, with parking outside?

QUEEN STREET/DOWNTOWN businesses will suffer, for the same reason. . . . . One more nail in the coffin '-(

COMPANIES WILL FIND IT HARDER TO GET WORKERS for downtown offices.

COUNCIL RESPONSE:

they have approved the sale of the Downtown Carpark

they will include a BUS facility and mobility parking

there are other parking capacity in the 'immediate area' at AT's Fanshawe Street (a long walk to the viaduct!)

and Victoria Street Carpark. (a VERY long walk to the viaduct) Also, when I last applied for an Apartment carpark it was FULL!

However council say they are both 'under-utilised'

Also they say there are various privately owned parking facilities. (Yes, at double the cost, or more!)

⚠️ DOGS DIE IN HOT CARS. If you love them, don't leave them. ⚠️

The Team from SPCA New Zealand

It's a message we share time and time again, and this year, we're calling on you to help us spread that message further.
Did you know that calls to SPCA about dogs left inside hot cars made up a whopping 11% of all welfare calls last summer? This is a completely preventable issue, and one which is causing hundreds of dogs (often loved pets) to suffer.
Here are some quick facts to share with the dog owners in your life:

👉 The temperature inside a car can heat to over 50°C in less than 15 minutes.
👉 Parking in the shade and cracking windows does little to help on a warm day. Dogs rely on panting to keep cool, which they can't do in a hot car.
👉 This puts dogs at a high risk of heatstroke - a serious condition for dogs, with a mortality rate between 39%-50%.
👉 It is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act to leave a dog in a hot vehicle if they are showing signs of heat stress. You can be fined, and prosecuted.
SPCA has created downloadable resources to help you spread the message even further. Posters, a flyer, and a social media tile can be downloaded from our website here: www.spca.nz...
We encourage you to use these - and ask your local businesses to display the posters if they can. Flyers can be kept in your car and handed out as needed.
This is a community problem, and one we cannot solve alone. Help us to prevent more tragedies this summer by sharing this post.
On behalf of the animals - thank you ❤️
