Volunteers work for decades to restore historic ferry next to motorway

Melanie Earley Reporter from Western Leader

Kia ora neighbours, a team of volunteers working on a historic steam ferry that’s been sitting by the Northwestern motorway for more than 20 years hope to see it back on the Waitematā Harbour.

Motorists using the Lincoln Rd interchange in Henderson will be familiar with the sight of the 40-metre steam ferry, called Toroa, sitting on Selwood Rd.

The Toroa ferry dates back to 1925, and was once used to take people between downtown Auckland and Devonport. It carried up to 20,000 people a day, and is the only remaining intact ship from its fleet.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
